Husqvarna and Kearney take a wining double at AORC finale
Kapunda, South Australia, hosted the final two rounds for the 2012 AORC (Australian Off Road Championships) over the weekend.
With the very best of Australia's off road racing talent looking to secure a strong finishing result for the final two rounds of this year's national championship series, Husqvarna racing's Glenn Kearney and Luka Bussa were primed and ready for the Kapunda rounds coming off strong performances in recent lead up events.
An unforeseen challenge presented itself as the team prepared to head off from their Paul Feeney Group headquarters with all the race bikes being stolen from the PFG/Husqvarna racing transporter and trailer in a brazen operation in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A huge effort by Joel, Vic and the entire PFG/Husqvarna race staff saw the team put together completely new race bikes and support equipment in one day leading up to the start of the event.
Saturday's penultimate round 9, saw Kearney make a solid start on his TE 310 and consolidate throughout the 2 hour race to take the win in the E2 class and more importantly move from third to second position in the 2012 E2 title chase.
With the team's spirits buoyed by the round 9 success, Kearney and the team again focused on achieving the maximum result for Sundays' series defining, final round.
Kearney again made an impressive start to the day and displayed some of his most impressive racing all season to again take the class win ahead of Chris Hollis and Matt Phillips.
Glenn Kearney:
“We were a little wary after having the race bikes stolen coming into this event, I wasn't sure how it would come together given the limited preparation the team had. We knew we had to give it everything this weekend and Joel, Vic and the boys have made a superhuman effort to minimize the impact on the riders by delivering very competitive race packages in such a short turnaround period.
The TE 310 didn't miss a beat all weekend; the conditions really suited me with good grip and not too much dust. I found my rhythm early and really enjoyed the racing to post our best results this season.
Thanks again to Paul Feeney and the entire team at PFG/Husqvarna Racing Team and of course our season sponsors 2012 season sponsors, Link International, Motul Oils, Pirelli tyres, RK Chains, Ferodo brake pads, Polisport and JT's sprockets”. Without them, this wouldn't have been possible.
The veteran's category was again dominated by Husqvarna with the unbeaten run of Damian Smith and his TE 310 continuing to register the perfect AORC season for 2012 with ten victories from ten starts.
Damian Smith:
“It was great to finish of the year with a win and I am delighted with the seasons results, we worked hard to get this one and the Husqvarna TE 310 has been strong all year, Thanks again to Husqvarna and my sponsors for their support for 2012 and I am pleased we finished with the result we were looking for.”
Husqvarna racing's Luka Bussa raced solidly over the final rounds of this year's championship to register with a very respectable 5th place finish in the 2012 AORC standings for the E1 class, a mere 2 points adrift of Tom McCormack in 4th position for 2012.
Luka Bussa:
“Thanks again to Joel and the team at PFG for coming up with a great package after the setback of having the race bikes stolen, I felt that I rode well over the weekend and the level of competition in the E1 class is well above that of previous years, The TE 250 was a great package all year. I am looking forward to a strong result in the A4DE (Australian 4 Day Enduro) and then to Germany for the ISDE (International Six Day Enduro).”
Paul Feeney:
“I am genuinely thrilled with this year's result, Glenn and our team from PFG showed what true professionals they are after overcoming some major obstacles to take 2 wins from 2 rounds on the weekend.
To say the riders and the team have put in a big effort is an understatement.
My personal thanks to our 2012 season sponsors Link International, Motul Oils, Pirelli tyres, RK Chains, Ferodo brake pads, Polisport and JT's sprockets, their continued support makes victories like this possible and their contribution is a key part of our success.
Special congratulations to Damien Smith, The perfect season, what a great result for Damien and fro Husqvarna. Very well deserved.”
