MXGP of Andalucía: De Wolf is back while Everts grabs points

Kay de Wolf made a gritty return from injury to claim seventh overall in MXGP on his full-time debut in the premier class, while Liam Everts battled through brutal conditions to secure a hard-fought 6-7 scorecard for seventh overall in MX2.

Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing faced a savage test at round two of the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship, as the MXGP of Andalucia was held at the deep, demanding Almonte sand circuit in Spain. After heavy rain through the weekend, the track developed into a rough, choppy and physically punishing surface that tested every rider.

Liam Everts continued his strong MX2 season opening campaign with another points haul. After finishing seventh in Saturday’s qualifying race, the Belgian delivered a composed ride in moto one. He held seventh early, moved into sixth on lap four, and stayed there to the finish as the track became increasingly rough.

Moto two followed a similar pattern. Everts climbed to fifth in the early laps and looked strong in his battle with Mathis Valin, before the demanding conditions took their toll late in the race. He eventually crossed the line in seventh, with his 6-7 scores securing seventh overall and 29 points.

For Kay de Wolf, Andalucia marked an important milestone. After missing the season opener in Argentina with a thumb injury, the former MX2 World Champion made both his return to racing and his full-time MXGP debut. Despite Saturday drama in qualifying after being caught in a first-turn incident, the Dutchman lined up on Sunday ready for his first premier-class Grand Prix.

De Wolf showed promise immediately in moto one, charging into eighth on the opening lap and holding a top-10 position for much of the race. As the intensity rose in the closing stages, he slipped back to tenth at the finish, still banking an encouraging result.

In race two, de Wolf built into the moto well. Running 13th on lap four, then 12th on lap seven, he made steady progress in the second half of the race to reach ninth by lap 13 before gaining another place on the final lap for eighth. That result secured seventh overall with 24 points in a highly encouraging first MXGP appearance.

With Everts adding more consistency in MX2 and de Wolf successfully opening his MXGP chapter, Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing leaves Andalucia with valuable progress made in difficult conditions.

The team now looks ahead to round three of the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship at the MXGP of Switzerland in Frauenfeld on March 29.

#74 - Kay de Wolf: “Honestly, I’m really happy to be back racing. It’s been a tough few weeks with the injury, so just lining up again and finishing both motos feels good. I’m not at 100% yet, but I could feel it getting better every time I was on the bike. The speed is there, I just need a bit more time and race rhythm. Overall it’s a solid start to my MXGP journey, and we’ll keep building from here.”

#26 - Liam Everts: “It was a tough weekend with the conditions, the track was really demanding physically. I hurt my ankle quite badly in timed practice, so Sunday was about managing that and getting through the races. I think both motos were quite solid - I stayed consistent and didn’t make big mistakes, which was important here. It wasn’t easy, but I’m happy to come away with 29 points - I would have signed for that this morning. Of course I would like a bit more, but we’re close and the base is good, so we keep building.”
