RACELINE HUSQVARNA BERRY SWEET RACING'S WATERS SCORES WODONGA PROMX PODIUM

Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing’s Todd Waters used his experience to master the mud and finish second overall in MX1 at a challenging third round of the 2023 Australian ProMX Championship at Wodonga.

The exceptionally muddy, rutted circuit was no match for the 2019 national champion and his Husqvarna FC 450, as he put in two consistent performances to earn his first podium of the year.

Despite qualifying outside of the top 10, Waters got a good jump off the gate in the opening moto and was rewarded for a safe and steady performance with a satisfying P2 result in a race that claimed many of his primary rivals.

Another great start to the second race saw him quickly move into fourth, which he maintained around the drying track to the chequered flag. His strong effort has seen him jump up to P4 in the championship standings, just one point behind third place.

In the MX2 class, Blake Fox and his Husqvarna FC 250 endured a tough day on the way to 20th overall.

After qualifying 17th, Fox bounced back from a first-turn crash to 14th in the opening mud-drenched race, then had to try and fight back from another big mistake early in the second race to finish 25th.

Elsewhere in the MX2 class, Husqvarna-mounted Queenslander Kaleb Barham put in two solid performances to finish the day fourth overall with a 4-5 result.

The MX3 class proved to be a happy hunting ground for the Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing team, with Jack Mather claiming the round win, and teammate Liam Owens finishing second overall for a memorable 1-2 result.

After a strong runner-up result in the opening moto, Mather claimed the final race victory and has now moved into the championship lead. Owens’ impressive 5-2 result has seen him move into second equal in the MX3 standings.

The fourth round of the Australian ProMX Championship will be held at Maitland, New South Wales, on 6-7 May.

Todd Waters: “My day turned out awesome. I’m stoked that things went my way today; I was able to get good starts and keep out of trouble. With races like this it’s all about staying upright and being smart with my riding. The track and conditions were really demanding, but even though I’m still way off the pace of where I need to be, I’m stoked on my performance and to put in two solid, consistent motos. We’re still testing and developing the bike as we go, but starting to move in the right direction. All in all, it was a really good round for the team and we’re excited to keep improving before Maitland.”

Blake Fox: "Today was a tough one for me. I started the first moto with a crash in the first turn, so I pulled in and got some new goggles, and slowly worked my way back to 14th, which wasn’t bad considering. I had another bad start to the second moto and had a big crash. My bike was covered in mud and a bit bent up, so it made for a difficult race. There were some positives to take from today, so I’m looking forward to somewhat of a home round at Maitland next month."
