MXGP of Australia: Everts closes 2026 with a win and podium

Liam Everts ended the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship with victory in the final MX2 moto at the MXGP of Australia, taking second overall and securing fourth in the championship standings for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing.

The season finale at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Motorsports Complex brought hot, humid conditions and a demanding red-clay circuit. Everts set the pace from the outset, topping both Free Practice and Time Practice on Saturday before finishing third in the qualifying race.

In Sunday’s opening moto, the Belgian was part of a close three-way fight at the front, eventually taking third just 2.168 seconds behind race winner Camden McLellan.

Everts went one better in the final race of the year. After moving into second behind early leader Jānis Mārtiņš Reisulis, he capitalised on a mistake by the Latvian on lap nine to take the lead. From there, he pulled clear to claim his third moto victory of the season, crossing the line 11.166 seconds ahead of McLellan.

His 3-1 scorecard secured second overall and a fifth consecutive Grand Prix podium. The 45-point haul also lifted Everts to fourth in the final MX2 World Championship standings with 795 points.

The result capped an impressive finish to Everts’ second season with the team. Following early podiums in Switzerland and Sardinia, he claimed moto victories at Loket and Arnhem before ending the year with five consecutive overall podiums. His final tally stands at seven Grand Prix podiums and three moto wins.

In MXGP, Kay de Wolf’s rookie campaign also delivered plenty of positives. The former MX2 World Champion claimed podiums in Sardinia and Latvia before returning from an ankle injury to record consecutive second-place finishes at Lommel and his home Grand Prix in Arnhem.

A subsequent hand injury brought his season to an early end, but the Dutchman finished ninth in the championship with 428 points and now turns his attention to recovery and 2027.

With Everts fourth in MX2 and de Wolf ninth in MXGP, Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing concludes the 2026 Grand Prix season with seven MX2 podiums, three MX2 moto victories and third place for Husqvarna in the MX2 Manufacturers’ Championship.
